People have been asking us for recommendations for foods and ways to stay healthy in this time of uncertainty. ATINA FOODS Ayurvedic products are made traditionally to promote health, boost immunity and wellness all the time, and they are especially nourishing during a crisis like this.

For starters, while it is hard to choose which is best, we have narrowed down a few top choices for staying home with Atina Foods and keeping the CoVid19 away. We hope to be able to post a bunch more over the next time being!

FYI: All our products are made by us in small batches, using only fresh and whole, high quality ingredients, naturally preserved with no additives at all. Our pickles are fermented naturally with salt, and include no vinegar, no water and no cucumbers. Our jams are preserved in unrefined raw sugar cane juice, each are made with ancient combinations of fruit, roots and spices, traditionally known for their health benefits. Vegan and Gluten Free.

1. TURMERIC GINGER SALT PICKLE or TURMERIC GINGER HERBAL JAM

These two underground friends are a perfect Ayurvedic combination to boost immunity, reduce inflammation, and taste damn straight great! 

You know in your heart if your sweet or salty, choose accordingly : ). TURMERIC GINGER SALT PICKLE is made of raw fresh organic turmeric and ginger rhizomes fermented in the sun, and like the sun, it is bright! Super nice on rice and beans, lightens and brightens anything heavy, and great as a dressing. TURMERIC GINGER HERBAL JAM is a cooked condiment and, like a good friend, it goes along with your favorite foods. Following the recipe of an ancient Ayurvedic Leyham (Medicinal Herbal Jam), we start with whole Turmeric and Ginger and preserve them in Tamarind and Indian raw sugar (Jaggery), with pickled black peppercorns and spices. It is slightly sweet, tart, with moments of heat - My favorite is on avocados, on eggs, roti, sandwiches.. in yogurt, on and on.

2. GARLIC SCAPE PICKLE

All the awesome immune boosting properties of raw garlic and not stinky! We use local (uncertified organic) Upstate New York garlic scapes during their short season and ferment them in salt!

ATINA FOODS ferments are made like kimchi and sauerkraut, besides preserving all the fresh goodness of the vegetable, they are also gut friendly! Deliciously fun and crunchy, fermented with our ATINA combination of energetic spices with an umami undertone. Akin to a caper, the SCAPER (!), is a great addition to everything. Period. Let’s start with, from hummus to hotdogs - mash potatoes, tacos, cheese, dumplings, mixed into macaroni or tuna salad and on and on! Scapes are EASY.

3. RHUBARB OR TAMARIND GINGER HERBAL JAM

A stomach smoothing, ginger hot, power jam digestif and also herbal expectorant, unique to Kerala, South India. We make the original with Tamarind (Puli), and a divine local one using Rhubarb that we grow and source from other local farmers. Both are amazing, Rhubarb is a little softer and sweeter and Tamarind a little more complex. 

Great on anything hard to digest; meat, cheese, chocolate, ice cream, pie..  Add to the list, great on rice and beans, with yogurt, on eggs, tossed on roasted, stir fried vegetable, and even just toast and cheese. 

If you are not feeling so good, this Herbal Jam will also help to make food appetizing (if you need that), help to get out phlegm and cough.

4. THIYAL

Our South Indian Coconut cooking paste - Great if you have whatever in your fridge or cupboards! Use in a stir fry, with water as a simmer sauce or put in the rice water to make a coconut rice! 

Great with veggies, meat, even just onions or potatoes! and want to either stir fry them in it, add water and use as a simmer sauce OR add a spoonful to your rice water before it cooks to make a coconut rice!

4.5 LASTY, we do have small PICKLING SPICE KITS, if you Have extra vegetable you want to star picking now, go for it - Good for about 1.5 lbs of veg. Comes with directions.


*THIYAL Suggestion from Chef Suresh, which is generally more or less of the following amounts;

  • Boil 1/2 cup of water

  • Dissolve 1/2 the jar of THIYAL into the water,

  • Cut about 1 lb of root vegetables into 1 inch size (carrot, kohlrabi, eggplant, onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes, radish, turnips, carrots, tomatoes..) whatever you have!

  • Mix thoroughly.

  • Cook on low fire, mix often, make sure it doesn’t burn.

  • Takes About 15 minutes

  • Ready when roots are cooked to tender. Your choice on how cooked you want your veggies!
