Turmeric Ginger Herbal Jam + Tamarind Juice
Turmeric Ginger Herbal Jam, or Leyham, is an amazing condiment with six layers of different tastes perfectly balanced to become an invigorating functional food designed to give you immunity, strength and vitality. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to make this leyham (translates from Malayalam to herbal jam, a thick traditional chutney used as both food and medicine in Ayurveda) using fresh turmeric and ginger rhizomes, along with jaggery, an unrefined cane sugar, and our own spice combination. We’ll also prepare a fresh tamarind juice from the fruit.
We’ll discuss how to balance the ingredients and how they combine to aid the body against inflammation and pain. At the end of the workshop, we'll sample the jam with a light South Indian vegan meal and you’ll bring home your own jar, as well as all the information you need for making and using the jam at home.
Presented by Atina Foods, this workshop will be led by Suresh Pillai, who learned cooking from the matriarchs of the family at an early age in his hometown in Kerala, South India, ancestral home of Ayurvedic health practices. It will be held at our certified commercial kitchen on our small farm property. Opportunities to tour the farm and shop at our Atina Home Store will also be available.
